ENTREPRENEUR

- Ori Skloot -

I've always been drawn to projects with untapped potential—whether that's renovating an apartment building, launching a nonprofit, mentoring a new investor, or creating opportunities for young people. I enjoy solving problems, building strong communities, and leaving things better than I found them.

Over the past three decades, my career has taken me through nonprofit leadership, sustainable construction, entrepreneurship, and real estate investing. While those paths may seem different on the surface, they've all been driven by the same purpose: creating lasting value for people and the communities around them.

Building with Purpose

That same passion for sustainability led me to become a licensed General Contractor (CSLB #877873) and found Advanced Home Energy (AHE). In its early years, AHE specialized in residential energy efficiency upgrades and solar installations throughout the Bay Area.

Along the way, I also served as the volunteer Executive Director of Efficiency First California, advocating for high-performance, energy-efficient building practices across the state.

As the market evolved, so did our company. In 2016, I repositioned AHE to focus on larger commercial and multifamily renovation projects, where we continue to combine thoughtful design, quality construction, and long-term building performance.

Building Things That Matter

My interest in sustainability began while studying at the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley, where I earned a Bachelor of Science with an emphasis in Sustainable Business.

After graduation, I co-founded Rising Sun Energy Center (RSEC), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing hands-on training and green job opportunities for teens and young adults. Our mission was to inspire young people to pursue meaningful careers by giving them practical experience in sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Supported through partnerships with utility companies, local governments, and public agencies, RSEC grew into an organization that continues to thrive today with an expanded mission of building career pathways that advance economic equity and climate resilience.

Investing in Communities

Real estate investing became a natural extension of my construction background. I purchased my first investment property in Berkeley in 2005 and earned my California real estate broker's license in 2008 (DRE #01837859).

Today, I focus on identifying multifamily properties with untapped potential—buildings that can be thoughtfully renovated, repositioned, and transformed into high-quality homes while creating long-term value for investors.

I currently serve as the managing member of a private investment group with ownership interests in more than 20 multifamily properties throughout the East Bay.

One of the most rewarding parts of real estate has been helping friends and family begin investing themselves. I enjoy sharing what I've learned, evaluating opportunities together, and helping others build long-term financial security through real estate.

Never Stop Exploring

Family Trip.JPG

Travel has always been one of my greatest passions. As a young adult, I worked as an international trip leader for Global Routes, leading teens on community service and cultural immersion programs in countries including Ghana, Guadeloupe, and Costa Rica. Those experiences reinforced my belief that meaningful travel broadens perspectives, fosters empathy, and creates lifelong connections.

I am also fortunate to have an extended family spread across the globe, with roots in Mexico, Belize, Sweden, Israel, and England. Every summer, we gather for a family reunion in a different destination, creating new memories while celebrating the diverse cultures and traditions that make our family unique.

For the past two decades, I have been part of a close-knit group of fellow general contractors who gather weekly for an in-person poker game. What began as a friendly tradition has become a spirited ritual filled with competition, camaraderie, and plenty of good-natured trash talk.

Our games are best described as friendly but feisty, and the evening’s winner is often the person who manages to yell the loudest.
